L'Alt Penedès

Tourist Brand Costa del Garraf

Between the cities of Barcelona and Tarragona, near the coast and with the mountains of Montserrat on the horizon, L’Alt Penedès is the land of the vine. The wines and cavas made here lend recognition to the name of this region, which has a host of treasures to discover, such as the archaeological site and Olèrdola Park, an area settled in the Neolithic Age, fortified by the Iberians and a strategic centre in the Middle Ages. Or there is the historical monuments of Sant Martí Sarroca, which include the Church of Santa Maria, a jewel of European Romanesque. Catalan Art Nouveau (known as Modernisme) left its mark on Gelida, Sant Sadurní and Vilafranca, towns with trails to walk in search of architecture and art from the turn of the twentieth century. Wine, the mainstay of the region, is represented in the Vinseum de Vilafranca, a museum dedicated to the culture of wine in Catalonia, which is a dynamic cultural space adapted to the demands for information of the twenty-first century.
