Lying between the Litoral and Prelitoral mountain chains, El Vallès Occidental has places of great landscape value and interesting examples of architecture from every age. The route of Els 3 monts (the three mountains) links the natural parks of El Montseny, Sant Llorenç del Munt and Montserrat along a signposted trail. It conserves a rich heritage of Art Nouveau architecture from the turn of the twentieth century, particularly in Terrassa and Sabadell, but also in Rubí, Cerdanyola and Sant Cugat. The industrial importance of the area until well into the twentieth century can be seen in museums and interpretation centres such as the one in Terrassa. This tourist area has many popular festivals, including La Plantada del Pi in Matadepera, along with many cultural events, such as the season of the Sabadell Friends of the Opera, and other music festivals, such as the Badia Flamenco festival, the Terrassa jazz festival and the Cerdanyola blues festival.
