With a height of 1,056 metres, El Montcau is one of the crowns of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac Natural Park and lends its name to this land of valleys, mountain ranges and plateaux, known for Romanesque and Gothic architecture and stunning scenery. The Monastery of Sant Benet de Bages, declared a national monument, is a jewel of Catalan Romanesque. The thirteenth-century Gothic bridge at Vilomara is a monumental feat of engineering measuring 130 metres in length that crosses the Llobregat River. The town of Mura conserves its medieval air, particularly in the Romanesque church of Sant Martí; and Talamanca, with its castle and the church of Santa Maria, is a town in which time appears to have stood still.
